Window coverings can make a world of difference when it comes to the energy efficiency in your home. Studies have shown that about 40% of the energy loss in your home occurs as the result of uncovered windows and sliding glass doors. During the colder months, the glass acts as a conduit for heat exchange, letting the warm air out and bringing the cold air in. As a result, your furnace has to work harder to keep the inside of your home nice and cozy. Conversely, during the summer, the sun pours in through uncovered windows, skylights, and sliding glass doors, heating the interior of your home. Then your air conditioner must turn on more often and run for longer to keep up. No matter the season or outside temperatures, uncovered windows can lead to increased energy costs.
What sets Duette® Honeycomb Shades apart from the other Hunter Douglas window treatments we offer is the cellular design. Cell blinds are constructed with pockets between the layers of the shade that trap air. The air then acts as an additional insulation layer for your windows and skylights. Cellular shades will help your home maintain a consistent internal temperature no matter what the weather is like outside. As a result, your home will be more comfortable, and your energy bills will decrease. Our latest innovation, Duette Architella®, features a honeycomb-within-a-honeycomb design for even greater energy efficiency.
The air trapped between the cell shade layers can help not just with the internal temperature of your home; it can also combat noise. Cellular honeycomb shades will provide a barrier between those sounds and your ears if you live in a noisy neighborhood or have planes or trains constantly passing your home. The same insulating properties also help with acoustics inside your home, making cellular shades great for living rooms, music rooms, and entertainment rooms.
Looking at a cell shade, you might think you only have three light options, fully open, partly closed, and fully closed, but that is far from the truth. We offer fabrics in several different opacities, from sheer to opaque. The different fabrics allow for different amounts of light penetration even when the honeycomb shades are fully closed. Duette® Honeycomb Shades are also available with the Duolite® feature, which combines two different fabrics into a single shade, allowing you to select between two different opacities or open the shade to a combination of the two. You can also choose the Top-Down/Bottom-Up operation to open your shades from the top or the bottom and have more control over the lighting. Suppose you prefer to be able to eliminate the light for a mid-afternoon nap or an early home movie. In that case, we also offer LightLock™, a system with a specially designed side channel that absorbs or deflects nearly all incoming light.
From Bay windows to skylights to arches to sliding glass doors, homes have a variety of windows in various shapes. Cellular honeycomb shades are designed to fit any window in your home. Our expert team will measure every window, and custom cut the cell blind to fit perfectly. Cellular shades can be made for narrow windows, wide windows, angled windows, and everything in between. Another reason that cell shades are a great option is that they can often remain fully operational, even in arches, hexagons, and ovals.
In addition to customizing the shape of your cellular honeycomb shade, we also offer a huge variety of fabrics. You can select the perfect color, pattern, texture, and opacity for every room in your house. Choose from a pull cord, continuous cord, cordless, or PowerView® automated operating system. We guarantee that we can find the perfect honeycomb shade for you.
If your interest has been piqued by the fine honeycomb shade options at Hunter Douglas, we have more varieties of window dressings to share with you. Their cellular construction traps air in honeycomb-shaped pockets to add an extra layer of insulation at your window.
